Communication Breakdown

Let's face it - we are more dialed in than ever. We carry around our Smart Phones, we have wireless internet on our Netbooks etc. We are almost NEVER unreachable. But wait a minute. Is that true? How many times do you call someone on their cell and they don't answer? Seems to me that before everyone and their cat had a cell phone, people actually answered their phones on a much higher percentage than they do in our current 'ultra-connected' society.
I admit to being guilty for a while of not answering a cell phone. I had one, but rarely used it. I found it handy for emergencies, or if I was running late to call whoever I was scheduled to see to let them know this, or if I was at the store and wondered if we had any milk or should I pick some up.
I am pretty good about answering my cellphone now as I evolved into the world of texting and have graduated to a SmartPhone (a Blackberry). Being a web developer, it's very important to have this technology and begin developing website views for the SmartPhone user.
Since we are so connected, it ought to be real easy to get in touch with whoever you are trying to call at any given time, right? WRONG. For some reason, whenever I try to reach someone on their cellphone, 7 times out of 10, they don't answer. I'm serious. WHY?
Why have a mobile phone that you carry around if you don't expect to answer any incoming calls? I just don't get it...I understand if you're in a meeting or something - I've been there and simply texted back "I'm in a meeting and will call you when I'm done." Also, if you're in the car and you don't have a hands free device - no, don't answer. That's the law in many states, including CA - ALTHOUGH I think it is the most ignored law on the books. Maybe your phone is on the charger in the other room and you don't hear it - that's fair. Or, maybe your phone is having an electronic hiccup - something my Blackberry does about once or twice a month. It stops making regular ring tone sounds (my ring tone is a favorite song..Coldplay's Viva la Vida...) and will make some little tiny beeps. The remedy is to take the battery out and put it back in and then it's fixed.
Anyway, this has been frustrating me for months and I had to vent. Been a while since I vented here...I have a lot of subject matter including evil mortgage companies who would rather foreclose or short sell to someone other than the distressed homeowner...a visual of us distressed homeowners arriving at the bank at night with spears and torches comes to mind...but that's for a different rant.
Until my next hissy fit....be well.
Blog is published randomly when I feel like it. It might not always be sunshine and kittens but I do my best to keep politics, religion, racial issues, or anything considered 'edgy' out ot if. If I can't sit and talk about it amongst a mixed group of people from all over the scope of humanity, you won't find it here, and if you do, please call me on it.
