The Recruiting "Treadmill"
Date published: August 11, 2014
I have been on the hunt for steady employment for a few months now. I get sometimes 20 calls per day and as many emails with job descriptions. This is good, right? Not so much...quantity vs. quality is what I am experiencing...BAD quality (mostly).
Let me preface this rant with the fact that NOT ALL RECRUITERS ARE GUILTY OF THIS. There are some great recruiters I have spoken to who have their stuff together and are great to work with. This rant addresses the other 99.9% - so here goes!
I get calls from overseas screeners who I cannot understand. Most often, the caller ID shows a phone number back in NJ or somewhere like that (but they are actually on a VOIP box in some far away land). They will say they have an' urgent requirement' in California. Where in California? Santa Monica. (No grasp of our geography - Santa Monica is 359 miles away from where I live. I get others like this - mostly via email - for "Urgent Requirements" in New Jersey, Nebraska, Michigan, etc. They pay no attention to the fact that I have "WILL NOT RELOCATE" all over my online job profiles.
The other thing that gets me is they think Java and JavaScript are the same thing. No. And finally - and this is the most irritating one - they will call me, and unless I respond within 5 minutes via email giving them confirmation of my rate, they will call and hound me until I do - and then I never hear from them again.
I am so tired of it. I have to wonder if the hiring companies experience the same pain working with these recruiters.
I just need to find a nice, steady job where I can shine. 100 dead-end calls a week is not what I signed up for.
Blog is published randomly when I feel like it. It might not always be sunshine and kittens but I do my best to keep politics, religion, racial issues, or anything considered 'edgy' out ot if. If I can't sit and talk about it amongst a mixed group of people from all over the scope of humanity, you won't find it here, and if you do, please call me on it.
